Kung Fu Panda 4 – action for the whole family

Just in time for the Easter holidays, the fourth installment of the Kung Fu Panda series, directed by Mike Mitchell, arrives in cinemas across Wittgenstein, promising to delight both longtime fans and new audiences alike. I must admit that I haven’t seen any of the sequels since the first animated action-comedy film in 2008. Nevertheless, the latest installment managed to win me over with its charm and humor. Good news for anyone like me who hasn’t followed all the previous films: the entry point is easy, and the exposition sets up a promising, action-packed storyline.

The panda Po, voiced by Hape Kerkeling, embarks on one final adventure as the Dragon Warrior to protect the Valley of Peace from an evil sorceress – even though he is actually destined to become the spiritual leader of the valley, a role he does not yet feel fully prepared for. But whether Po feels ready or not, the story moves forward at a rapid pace. Intense fight scenes alternate with fast-paced chases through the city of Juniper City, which may feel a bit rushed for some, but is never boring. The younger audience members in the theater seemed particularly entertained by the humorous details, such as the slightly bloodthirsty yet adorable gangster rabbits and the dynamic storytelling style.

In addition to its exciting animated action, Kung Fu Panda 4 also delivers several heartfelt messages that are naturally woven into the plot. For example, Po has not only his biological father Li, but also his adoptive father, Mr. Ping the goose. Without their strong bond and family support, even the Dragon Warrior Po would sometimes struggle. Thanks to these meaningful themes and the lovable main character, Kung Fu Panda 4 is a film that the whole family can enjoy together.

Kung Fu Panda 4 is rated for ages 6 and up and can be seen at the New CAPITOL on Thursday and Friday at 4:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 3:30 p.m., and Monday to Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. At the Residenz Cinema in Bad Laasphe, the film is showing Thursday and Friday at 4:45 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1:45 p.m.
